The St. Joseph Society for the Propagation of the Word was formed in 2005 by a group of people dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel through enabling the formation of Catholic Bible study groups, and providing materials and support to all who seek a greater understanding of the Word of God. To that end, it is our mission to produce and distribute the seven year bible study, Invitation to Christian Discipleship as well as assisting those needing help in starting a study.
St. Joseph Society For Propagation Of The Word
James P. O’Bryan, S.T., started a journey of love for the Word and the Catholic laity when he began his first bible study. Pushed by the laity and inspired by the Holy Spirit, he began work on a bible study. That initial calling grew into a seven year Bible study series, Invitation to Christian Discipleship, which is an in-depth study of the New Testament designed for Catholic laity.
The study has four immediate goals:
- To ensure a true spirit of repentance
- To foster a deeper commitment in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ
- To create a greater awareness of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer
- To encourage a more vibrant participation in the life and mission of the Church.
Theses same goals inspired the writer to author other books, which are not part of the Bible study itself, but are designed to enhance understanding the Gospel message, and enrich one’s relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Each topic in the Bible study materials consists of a teacher’s manual, which is the text of Father O’Bryan’s original lectures; and a student manual, which includes a summary of the lecture, study questions, and related Bible readings. The student manuals are designed to be used in group discussion as well as for individual study.
In addition, recordings of Father O’Bryan’s original lectures are available on CD for many of the topics. The recordings can be used for either group or individual study. They are not required for the formation of a Bible study group, but are useful in enhancing the learning process.
All materials are available on this website.
